Ballachulish is located on beautiful Loch Leven in Lochaber and sits at the mouth of the Loch. A ferry carried passengers across here as there were no roads. North Ballachulish and Ballachulish Village developed at the ferry crossing. In 1975 a bridge was opened connecting both sides of the loch.
In 1600 slate was quarried here and soon became the area's main industry. Slate from the East Laroch Quarry provided roofing material for Edinburgh and Glasgow. Visit the old quarry site and enjoy a view of the area from the cliff top. Ballachulish is a great place to stay and enjoy beautiful Loch Leven.
A82 takes you thru the majestic Glencoe. Stop overnite in Ballachullish. Continue on A82 to A380 the "Road to the Isles". Pass Fort William and the Glenfinnan Monument and take the ferry from Mallaig to Skye. After your visit cross the Skye Bridge to the Kyle of Lochalsh. Stay at the Balmacara Hotel on A87 and then explore the Isle of Skye and the beautiful Eileen Donan Castle in Dornie on Loch Alsh.
