William Randolph Hearst was an American newspaper publisher. Hearst created the largest newspaper and magazine business in the world. Hearst was an extremely wealthy individual for the time.

In 1919, Hearst inherited over 250,000 acres of land from his father George Hearst. Hearst used his extravagant wealth to build his dream home. The architect Julia Morgan helped him realize his vision, between 1919 and 1947 Hearst's dream took form and is now known as the Hearst Castle in San Simeon.

Many celebrities visited San Simeon such as, Charlie Chaplin, the Marx Brothers, Greta Garbo, Joan Crawford, Clark Gable, Calvin Coolidge, Franklin Roosevelt, and Winston Churchill.

The film "Citizen Kane" 1941, by Orson Welles, was the fictional account of Charles Foster Kane and was based on the life of William Randolph Hearst. The film is considered to be the greatest film of all time.
