Utah was admitted to the Union on January 4, 1896. The state capital is Salt Lake City. Brigham Young led the first Mormon pioneers to the Great Salt Lake
following the death of Joseph Smith in 1844. The name "Utah" is derived from the Ute Indian language and means the "people of the mountains".
We visited Utah recently to photograph the "Mighty Five", the great National Parks of this beautiful state. Starting in Zion we then visited Bryce, Capital Reef, Canyonlands and Arches National Park. The "Mighty Five" National Parks are visited each year by several million tourists from around the world.
We toured the parks the last week of May and first week of June. We recommend traveling in late April or May, as it is cooler and less crowded. The height of the tourist season in July would be very busy and for our money much too hot. RV parking and camping are somewhat limited, so book your trip early!
There are several tour operators that provide coach trips through this area which is another option!
