Yellowstone was designated the first National Park by President Ulysses S. Grant in 1872. The park's roughly 3,500 square miles is located in Wyoming and lies at an elevation of 8,000 feet. Yellowstone sits on top of a 2.1 million year old ancient volcano. Heat rising up from the magma chamber beneath the caldera creates the geothermal activity we see today. The park is famous for the "Old Faithful Geyser".
Our tour, "Wild About Yellowstone" is a small group, guided tour of the park via bus. It includes a welcome gift, all meals and accommodations, scenic cruise on Yellowstone Lake, wagon ride, Old West Cookout and baggage handling. The bus was comfortable and the large windows provided a great view.
Our driver and guide Jim was excellent. From biology, geology, chemistry, and contact sports he covered it all. I'm glad there was no test! Some of the wildlife that make their home in the park include; grizzlie, black bear, deer, wolves, bison, elk and antelope. Geothermal activity in the park include; hot springs, geysers, mud pots and fumaroles. To see the power and majesty of the Earth is humbling!
