Images of Bryce Canyon National Park

Mormon pioneers settled the area around Bryce Canyon in the 1850s. The park was named after Ebenezer Bryce, who homesteaded here in 1874. President Warren G. Harding proclaimed Bryce Canyon a national monument on June 8, 1923. On February 25, 1928, Bryce Canyon became a national park.

The colorful rock formations called "hoodoos" make the landscape of Bryce distinctly differant from the other National Parks. The brilliant red, orange, and white colors of the rock formations are incredible. The entire park is a fanciful dreamlike landscape that could only be imagined by Salvador Dali!

There are plenty of great hotels and restaurants in the area. If you visit consider staying in the Bryce Canyon Lodge which was designed by Gilbert Stanley Underwood. The Lodge has a great restaurant and the Western Cabins and Lodge are only a short walk to the Canyon's Rim.

After a morning hike grab lunch at the North Canyon General Store, sit on the porch and relax!
